Copic Card Challenge in support of Koala Kids

I am so excited to be entering my first Copic Card Challenge for 2 reasons. Apart from having a chance to win some incredible prizes, it's all for a good cause. I love that Copic Australia will donate $5 to Koala Kids for EVERY card entered! I have also chosen to donate my card to a Koala Kids Patient.

For this challenge, I've created my first criss-cross pocket card and below you will find instructions on how I made it.

  

          Materials needed

• 1 12'x12' card stock for the pocket (I've used white)
• Card stock (contrasting colour) for insert, frames and punches (I've used red) 
• 2 pieces of 5 3/8" x 5 3/8" patterned paper
• 2 piece of 5 3/8" x 5 3/8" patterned paper cut in half for triangles
• Scor-Pal
• Martha Stewart heart border punch
• Strong
  adhesive
• Scissors/paper trimmer
• corner rounder
• Stamped image/s and embellishments as desired 

Instructions

Cut 2 pieces of cardstock 5 1/2" x 11" and score each piece at 5 1/2"

Cut one of the squares in half to form a triangle (on each piece).

Glue both squares together

Cut 3 squares of patterned paper (5 3/8" x 5 3/8")

One will be for the inside.
* (cut 4 squares if you want one for the back cover)

The remaining 2 squares can be cut in half to form triangles.

You should have 4 triangles but you only need two.

* If you are using the same patterned paper for each triangle then you only need one square.

The INSIDE and BACK square should look like this.

I've only covered the inside.

Glue both patterned triangles to the back. 

When they are folded towards the front, 

the patterned paper will be seen when crossed at the front.

It should look like this once folded.

Glue or place adhesive on the bottom of the inside square, 

as well as the bottom of the triangle that will be on top of the card. 

For the Insert

Cut cardstock and patterned paper same size as in picture.

Round off both top corners of each piece.

Use the heart punch along the bottom.

For the Tab

Cut a strip of cardstock 2 1/2" long and use the heart punch along one side.

Make sure you place the tab piece between the other 2 pieces 

before sticking them together.

I made this circle with sentiment to be glued on my insert.

To make the circle

Cut out a 3 1/2" circle and stamp as desired.
I cut another strip of cardstock and used the heart punch along one side 

to create a border to frame my circle.

Mother's Day Card

It's that time of the year again where MUM's are celebrated but the truth is...mother's should be celebrated everyday. I am thankful for my mum. She has a generous spirit and a gift of giving. She's a great cook too!
I also love being a mum...it is a gift from God and He has definitely blessed me with 4 amazing children.

Well today I made my mum her mother's day card which I am entering into the 
'La La Land Crafts Contest #13 - Mother's Day, Wedding or Graduation.' It is the first time I have paper pieced a card. It was a bit of work but I like the effect. I also used liquid pearl for the first time but had an accident halfway through when the bottle slipped and rolled over some of the pearls and squashed them. I tried to fix the smudge the best I could :(

Quinceañera Book Card

I made this book card for my daughter Brianna who celebrated her Quinceañera last year.

I never got around to posting photos of her party or uploading my tutorial for her card...so finally I decided today is the day :)

Between my friends and I we took 3000 photos, so there were a lot to sort through. I've picked some of my favourites to show you.

Here is the Book Card Tutorial.

             Materials needed

• Card stock for book cover
• Card stock for matting (or patterned paper)
• Card stock for book frame
• Scor-Pal
• Martha Stewart Doily Lace Edge Punch
• 2 pieces of ribbon
• Glue
• Scissors/paper trimmer
• Embellishments as desired 

 

Book cover 

    cut your card stock 7" x 12" 

    score at 5 1/2" and 6 1/2" to create the book spine.

Book frame 

Cut 2 pieces of card stock measuring 6 1/2" x 8"

Cut 2 pieces of card stock measuring       5" x 8"

Using your Scor-Pal, 

score your paper at 1/2", 1 1/2", 2 1/2", 3 1/2",4 1/2", 5 1/2", 6 1/2" and 7 1/2" 

Flip your card stock over and score at 1", 2", 3", 4", 5", 6" and 7"

Using a bone folder, concertina-fold the 4 pieces of card stock 
with alternate mountain and valley folds creating crisp folds. 
When you're done, they will look like the one on the bottom right corner.

The 4 pieces that make up the book pages folded.

Place glue on the edges of all the pieces that will join together.

You will attach one of the longer pieces to one of the shorter pieces.

Wriggle the corners gently into place until the 2 edges sit at right angles.

Add the third piece.

Then add the fourth piece.

Notice how I've left all the tops and bottoms of each piece to glue last.

Here's what it looks like all glued down.

This is where you will glue it to 

but before you do that...you will have to 

mat and decorate your book cover inside and out

I have chosen glittered card stock but you can use patterned paper if you like.

Cut 2 pieces of card stock measuring 5 1/4" x 6 3/4"

Cut 1 piece of card stock measuring 7/8" 

 These will be matted on the inside of your cover like this 

but before you glue them down 

make sure you glue down anything else that has to be glued underneath them 

like ribbon, border edges etc

Punch out 2 strips of border edges measuring 5"

Punch out 2 strips of border edges measuring 6 1/2"

These strips will be glued on the book frame to decorate it.

 Punch out two 7" strips of border edges to glue on the inside of the book cover

Cut 2 pieces of ribbon measuring 7" and glue them 
between the matted card stock and cover.

 This will be your closure for the book once it's done.

The border edges and ribbons glued down before the matted card stock.

Remember to also glue down any ribbon 
from the front cover that needs to be hidden.

Hello Spring!

Well it's actually not Spring here in Australia...it's Autumn.
I am entering my first  La La Land Crafts challenge and their theme is 'Spring Easel Card'. I have fallen in love with these beautiful stamps and dies!

So, the last few weeks I've been practicing my copic colouring and finally I can see an improvement...but I still have a long way to go. I've really enjoyed creating a card for this challenge and stretched myself to make a 'three easel card'. I got the idea from Norma @ From My Craft Room then adapted it to my own measurements. I have coloured up the follwing digi stamps

My son has a hidden talent...

Since my last post, I have made only one card which I will upload soon. I have also been watching so many copic colouring tutorials and been practising heaps. I am beginning to see an improvement.
Friday nights my older kids all go to youth and my 10 yr old son, Gabriel and I have started crafting together.
I recently stumbled across 'La La Land Crafts' and have fallen in love with their Marci and Luka stamps.
My son loves the Luka stamps and wants to build his collection now.
Well, last night he wanted to make a card while I worked on mine. He created his own digi scene using some of Make it Crafty Urban collection digi stamps and used his first Luka stamp (Back to School Luka). He just coloured away but then when it came to doing the hair and skin, he wanted to blend colours like everybody else. I gave him a mini tutorial on what I've learnt so far and he went for it. The results speak for themselves! I am so proud of him!!!
He would like to enter his card on La La Land Crafts for Kids blog and maybe even start his own blog.

Update on 1st March: So happy and proud of Gabriel!!! His card won the kids blog challenge. He is very excited. I can't wait to see his creativity develop :)

Merry Christmas!!!

What a busy year I've had. So busy that I had to lay down my craft since my last post in August 2011.
I've been busy working with my mum and had the privelege of being asked by my Pastor to head up our 12-15 year old youth group. I thoroughly enjoyed it for a few months but have decided to devote myself entirley to my true call, which is children's ministry.
Right now I'm on holidays from everything for 3 weeks and am just recovering from a full on year and the late nights and early mornings that comes with this festive season. I just plan to relax with my family and get back into what I love to do...craft :)
Next year I will have a little extra time on my hands and hope to use it to create lovely projects. I'm looking forward to getting back into blogging and crafting.
I hope you've all had an awesome Christmas and that 2013 will be a year of new opportunities, lot's of joy and an abundance of blessings for you all.
